Audience Profiling - spider diagram

Update on online questionnaire - 6/12/15

I have just created my final online survey, using survey monkey and emailed it amongst my target audience, asking more people than last time. Once I have received all of my responses I will present and analyse the results and explain how it has influenced my planning ideas.

Focus group task evaluation

In conclusion to this interview, the responses I received from members of my target audience were positive and has given me more confidence and aspiration to go forwards with my ideas. From this, my planning of article features has developed. I will be including top 10 songs in the chart, and competitions as another feature. When I asked the question, 'What genre would you specifically choose if purchasing a magazine yourself?' Person 2, said he would choose the one that stands out the most, therefore the front cover needs to be as appealing as possible. As well as this, in my article about festival outfit trends, I will upload photos of specific outfits. This has influenced my planning ideas, because I hadn't previously thought about uploading pictures of outfits.

Conventions - Audio presentation

30/11/15 - Update

I have just uploaded my focus group video on to my blog and written out the transcript. Today I have also started researching into typical conventions relevant to the genre of my chosen music theme. I am going to present this task through a voiceover.

Focus Group - Video & Transcript

This video is of my focus group. The three people I interviewed are within my target audience and age range. The questions I asked were open questions in which they could discuss between them. The questions are relevant towards the planning of my production. I will shortly be uploading a transcript for this video. Transcript... ME - Hello everyone i'm just going to ask you a few questions based on the production of my magazine, which is pop/chart genre music. The first question is, what genre music do you associate with music magazines straight away? What do you instantly think? PERSON 1 (far right) - Charts. PERSON 2 (far left) - Pop. The overrated stuff. PERSON 1 - Justin Bieber. PERSON 2 - The stuff that near enough every magazine has. ME - Okay. What would you expect to see in a typical music magazine? Such as images, interviews? PERSON 1 - Probably the top 10 in the music charts, like recommendations of music. ME - What about like competitions? Posters? PERSON 1 - Yeah competitions. PERSON 2 - Yeah, I'd say about famous people too. Certain famous people in a magazine like Chloe said, Justin Bieber, Nicki Minaj. ME - Do you enjoy reading music magazines? If so what genre would you specifically choose to read if you were going out and purchasing one yourself? PERSON 1 - I don't normally read magazines, but if I was going to, I think I'd probably get one with a bit of everything in. Because thats more my music taste. PERSON 2 - I'd just pick the one that first jumps out at me, you know instantly. PERSON 1 - Charts. ME - Okay, do you think having a 2 page spread on festival gossip would work well in a pop/chart magazine? If so, do you have any advice on what specific things I could include based around festivals? So, what festival outfits are on trend? PERSON 1 - Yeah I think that would be good, because a lot of people our age go to festivals and so it would be more effective. Especially if its aimed at young girls because they would be more interested in the fashion part. PERSON 2 - Yeah you want to try and include like interest for all the audience, so you'd put costumes for the girls and then photo's so theres images up too. ME - Thank you. Thats it - thanks!

26/11/15 - What I completed today...

Today I have spent 3 hours on my media coursework towards my final production outside of the classroom. I completed the technical research task and presented it using 'Emaze' in which I then uploaded to my blog. Today I have also completed part of the focus group task. I gathered a small group of people together that fit in with my target audience and asked them open questions in which their answers would develop my planning. I decided to video this task.

18/11/15

In this afternoons lesson, I edited my textual analysis post as I had forgotten to post one of the pictures of a print I had previously analysed. I then started the textual analysis of student work task, so far I have created a powerpoint which will include all of my research for this activity. I have also started analysing one students work, an example from the OCR Media Weebly website which is so far very helpful.

17/11/15 - update on planning & researching

This morning I had double media, therefore I completed more of my research & planning. I updated some of my blog with overviews of previous tasks and I finished my genre research which I will be uploading shortly.

Influential figures overview

The influential figures task enabled me to research into music artists/bands, magazine publishers and editors. This influenced me in my planning as I understood how much research and planning goes into every single detail of most conventions within a magazine. I presented this task on Prezi and included images of certain magazine prints, musicians and editors/publishers. I started this task on 27/10/15 and completed it by 3/11/15.

Overview of textual analysis & research into similar products

This task was a very important part of my research process and needed to be very detailed. I textually analysed three prints that are similar to my genre and target audience, which is chart & pop music. After analysing these prints it was very beneficial for me as it helped me understand typical conventions, such as genre, narrative, media language and representation. In my research for this task I included information to as how certain conventions I noticed in the analysis will appeal to my target audience. I am hoping to stick to some typical conventions I found in the prints as it is a good starting point for me and gives me extra confidence to then subvert conventions if I wanted to. I completed this task on the 22/10/15.

What I have achieved so far...

So far in my planning & researching I have completed my response to the brief in which I explained which brief I chose and why. What my initial ideas were on my production and I considered the genre I wanted to follow as well as target audience. This was very helpful for me as it enabled me to come up with more ideas towards my planning and helped me realise what research I needed to do on previous prints in order for me to have a rough idea on the theme, genre and layout. I completed this task on the 6/10/15.
